Creating a business website is not Field of Dreams scenario where thousands of customers will be flocking to your website just because its there. My Display Looks Like the Matrix

Last week we had a PC in for repair where the problem I was given on the telephone was ‘My screen looks like the Matrix’ and wont boot up? Now there is only so much information you can get over the telephone to try and diagnose what the real problem with the computer that would be causing this but as the pc would not boot and the screen was looking very odd, this was leading to a hardware fault and a likely culprit being the video card.
On further inspection of the computer when it arrived at the office for repair, it was discovered on opening the case that it was full of dust with the processor cooling heat sink and the graphics card heat sink and fan full of dust. As you will see from the images below there was a considerable amount in there with the dusk tightly packed over 60% to 70% of the processor heat sink this would be seriously effecting the cooling of the processor.

After a good clean up and replacement heat sink fan as the old casing was now brittle and split around the mounting screws with a new application of thermal paste between the processor and heat sink, the pc booted up straight away and was back to full working status very quickly. The graphics card needed nothing more than a good clean to allow for proper cooling and the heat sink and fan to be able to do there job and keep the graphics card cool.

This repair was very simple and could have easily be prevented with a quick vacuum of the case to remove excess dusk from building up over time and could have easily been a costly repair if the processor or graphics card had become damaged due to not being cooled properly and required replacement.

WordPress Unavailable After Upgrade

After running the automatic upgrade for WordPress through your website you may receive an error message after the site upgrade has been completed ‘Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.’.

All WordPress site pages that you try and access display this error message so you are unable to view the site or access the admin section of your CSM website to make any changes.

During the automatic upgrade of your WordPress site a file named .maintenance is added to your sites base folder. If this file exists you and all of your sites visitors will see this error message.

To remove this error message and allow you and you sites visitors to view the website as it should be displayed simply delete the .maintenance file and your site will be back online.

If you still cannot see your site refresh your web browser to reload the page and display your site again.

Complete Installation by Running PSConfig Utility

When logging into the SBS 2011 server the first time as an administrator after installing updates you receive the following pop up message on the screen;

‘Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard Health Alert’

An update for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 was installed on your Small Business Server. You must now complete the installation process by running the PSConfig utility to update the SharePoint databases. If you do not run PSConfig, some features of the server may not function correctly. For more information about how to run PSConfig, see Knowledge Base article 2580174 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=226610. If you have already run PSConfig, you can ignore this message.

The resolution to this error message on the Microsoft site is to run the PSConfig Utlity;

1. Open an Administrative command prompt.
2. Change directory to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN
3. Run PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures
